Is your teacher the greenest teacher in Northern Ireland?

Northern Irelands leading organisation in the promotion and development of renewable energy, Action Renewables and educational programme sponsor Norfolkline have launched a search for Northern Ireland’s ‘Green Teacher Of The Year 2008’.

Pupils throughout the province are being asked to enter the teacher they feel plays a significant role within their school in promoting a greener environment. There are two categories in the awards, one primary and one post-primary.

Dr. Andy McCrea, Director, Action Renewables said “Schools throughout Northern Ireland have developed excellent strategies to educate children on ways to help the environment. We are delighted to launch this competition to find Northern Ireland’s greenest teachers and we believe the quality of entries will be strong as schools have become increasingly dedicated in ensuring children are educated on protecting the environment.”

Action Renewables education programme, which is supported by Norfolkline, visits primary and post-primary schools across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of sustainable renewable technology. Throughout 2007, Action Renewables have delivered customised visits to over 150 schools, creating awareness of renewable energy and climate change to approximately 13,000 pupils across the province.

Norfolkline is delighted to be involved in the search for Northern Ireland’s greenest teachers, as they are the role models for the young and will set the standards for other teachers throughout the province.” 

Each winning teacher in the two categories will return travel from Belfast to Liverpool for a car and four people on an evening sailing, including en-suite cabin, dinner and breakfast, Body Board, Solar Watch and Trophy. The pupils who enter the winning teachers will also win return travel with Norfolkline for a car and four people.
