Norfolkline Ferry division launch online shipment tracking
Norfolkline, part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and one of Europe’s leading ferry companies, has launched online shipment tracking facilities for transport on Norfolkline’s English Channel, Irish Sea, and North Sea ferry routes.
Shipment tracking is a free value-added-service that is available to all Norfolkline’s freight ferry account customers in the "Online services & bookings" section of the Norfolkline freight ferry website (www.norfolklinefreight.com).
To use the service the customer provides their Norfolkline account number and the booking number for the shipment that they wish to track. The shipment tracking system returns the status of the shipment, for example, whether it has arrived at its destination port or not.
Supplementary information such as the customer’s reference for the booking and the registration number of the equipment is also returned to facilitate cross-referencing in the customer’s IT system if required.
Shipment tracking functionality has been available for a number of years to customers that book electronically using Norfolkline’s online booking portal or via their own systems using Norfolkline’s B2B platform, but this is the first time the functionality has been made available to all customers.
Kell Robdrup, Managing Director, Norfolkline Ferry Division commented:
"Making shipment tracking available is another initiative which aims at creating transparency and saving administrative costs for all our customers. In this fast changing business environment, information is key to greater efficiency. By offering user-friendly IT solutions, Norfolkline is definitely your choice of preferred ferry partner."
Declan Walsh, eBusiness Manager at Norfolkline commented:
"Our customer satisfaction surveys have shown us that our customers want to use electronic solutions where possible, as they allow them to run their operations more efficiently.
Making shipment tracking available to all our customers on www.norfolklinefreight.com is part of our drive in 2009 to increase the proportion of business that we execute electronically. We believe this facility will be of particular benefit to customers shipping unaccompanied equipment on our Irish Sea and North Sea routes, and hope that using shipment tracking will encourage such customers to use the electronic booking facilities that we have available for them."
