Peter Hoogendoorn
Process & Information Manager - Freight
My name is Peter Hoogendoorn, I was born in 1962 and I have been with the company since 1984.
In 1984, I started as a junior clerk in the import / export departments, involved in customs-clearance activities.
Within a few years, I moved on as operations manager in Scheveningen.
With the knowledge obtained in operations, I have worked within the Norfolkline IT environment for a period of about 7 years, building our in-house developed software platform with a number of colleagues.
After this I felt I had to get back into operations in which I was able to use the knowledge obtained in IT back into the business which has worked out quite well.
I have been responsible for customer services in the ferry division in Scheveningen, after which I was able to take the next step at the end of 2005 when I became responsible for the integration of our newly acquired Irish Sea activities, in the role of project manager. This project was completed at the end of last year.
I am currently in the position of Process Improvement/Implementation Manager, working within the Ferry Division to lift the IT platform to yet the next level, in the year ahead.
The reason I chose to follow a career in the shipping industry can probably be traced back to my child-hood, being born and raised in Rotterdam-Delfshaven, close to all types of dynamic and exiting port activities.
In my younger days I could spend quite some time looking at the vessels passing by on the river, that’s how I probably got infected with the “shipping virus”.
The culture in Norfolkline is rather open and appreciative to all staff, offering great opportunities to learn and grow. The organization is quite focused on service on its customer base and is often praised for its achievements.
After all, in your daily job, you might as well enjoy the challenges and the environment!
