DFDS Seaways Operating Normal Service
On Dover–Dunkirk Route Today
With scheduled air and rail strikes taking place in France today (12th October), DFDS Seaways (formerly Norfolkline) is running a normal service but is advising all passengers to allow extra time for travel both to and from France.
Today’s national strikes in France are also affecting the country’s roads, with some lorry drivers taking part in the strike action causing slow moving traffic on roads across the country.
Chris Newey, Passenger Services Director for the English Channel route at DFDS Seaways, said:
“Despite the strike disruptions, we are operating a normal service today. The main message that we’d like to get across is for people to allow plenty of time to travel to and from the Dunkirk Port in France, which is a lot less congested than Calais.
“We have space and can still take bookings on our Dover – Dunkirk ferry route to ease the disruption being caused by the strike action. Bookings can be taken both on the phone and via our website.”
Passengers experiencing delays with their carriers from other ports today may also be able to transfer to the company’s Dover – Dunkirk service. All passengers are advised to contact their carrier to check on the latest position. The message for travellers without a scheduled ticket is to visit www.norfolkline.com or call ahead on our booking line 0871 230 0440, if within the UK, or 0044 208 127 8303 if outside the UK, to check availability and make a booking.
DFDS Seaways runs a regular service between Dover and the French port of Dunkirk, with ferries sailing every two hours. The cross-Channel ferry takes two hours and tickets start from £19 for a car and up to four people.
DFDS Seaways is the only ferry company to sail into Dunkirk, so the port benefits from being quiet, and has excellent connections to other parts of France, including Paris, which is just three hours’ drive by car.
