British drivers warned about French road regulations

Dover, August 10th 2009

Britons taking their car with them on the ferry to France may not be aware of the country's driving laws, and particularly how these differe from those in the UK a new study has suggested.

According to research by Hastings Direct, 40 per cent of those asked were not aware that the legal alcohol limit for motorists in France is 50mg, 30mg lower than in the UK.

The survey also revealed numerous knowledge gaps from British drivers when it comes to motoring in a range of nations across Europe, on issues such as speed limits and which side of the road they should drive on.

Mat Shepherd, trading director for the company, commented:

"A little research into foreign driving laws could go a long way, enabling you and your family to be safe and legal when on holiday."

Meanwhile, a separate survey by the firm revealed that ten per cent of those asked did not think it was worth taking the time to read up on road laws in other countries before visiting, those heading on the ferry to France may be concerned to hear.
