25 March 2010

Last minute holidaymakers looking for a short break this Easter are being urged by ferry operator, Norfolkline, to take advantage of great ferry rates to travel to places such as Bruges, the chocolate capital of Europe, for a stress free holiday.

And with recent research showing that Brits were the second biggest spenders on chocolate last year, Bruges offers the perfect getaway for all chocolate lovers, and is situated at less than an hour’s drive from Dunkirk.

The average Brit spends £72 a year on chocolate – which equates to almost £3.75 per week, or a chocolate bar a day . The Swiss have the biggest love of chocolate with the average person spending a staggering £140 per year.

Norfolkline’s latest deals mean than holiday makers can now hop across the Channel from just £24 for a car and up to four passengers this Easter with its award winning cross Channel ferry service from Dover to Dunkirk.

Chris Newey, general manager passenger services at Norfolkline, said:

“Bruges offers the ultimate chocolate experience and is less than an hour from Dunkirk. We have put together a short break guide outlining some of the best places to visit in the city.

“With our three modern vessels, equipped with fantastic, child-friendly facilities, as well as a range of quality restaurants, your holiday will start as soon as your board the ferry.”

The medieval city of Bruges is renowned for its beer and chocolate. Norfolkline’s Chocolate and Beer Motoring brochures provide a definitive guide to the best places to sample the finest chocolate and beer that Belgium has to offer. The brochures can be downloaded from www.norfolklinetravel.com/brochures.

Last year was dubbed the year of the Staycation, owing to the surge in UK holidays and Norfolkline has tipped 2010 to be the year of the EuroHop, with people looking for an affordable foreign getaway, and short breaks to Europe being top of the list.

From now until 18 April 2010, passengers can pay just £24 each way for one car and up to four passengers* on a Norfolkline ferry between Dover and Dunkirk.
