No smoking policy

Norfolkline aims to provide the highest standards of passenger services on board all of our ships and to actively listen to all feedback that we receive from our customers.

We are aware that a considerable number of our passengers have been telling us that they would appreciate a non-smoking environment whilst traveling with us and we have therefore been giving this our careful consideration.

We have now made a decision to make all of our Ro-Pax ships non-smoking vessels with effect from 12th July 2005 for the following reasons that we believe are very valid in today’s environmental climate.

  • The health and safety of our crew and our passengers is of paramount importance to us and we believe that the introduction of this policy will ensure a cleaner, healthier travel experience for everyone
  • Many of our passengers travel with young children, and passengers who accompany them have told us they would prefer a non-smoking environment for their children
  • There is already legislation in Ireland, and some other countries, to ensure workers can work in a smoke-free environment to protect their health and we believe the introduction of this policy demonstrates our commitment to following best practice in the workplace for the staff on our ships
  • We believe this policy would eliminate one of the potential fire hazards on board our ships

We do, of course, recognise that we carry passengers who do wish to smoke and we are therefore providing designated sheltered areas on the outside decks to accommodate them.

Norfolkline sees the introduction of this policy as a positive step forward and we trust that our passengers will co-operate fully with our staff in ensuring that the non-smoking policy is adhered to.
