Dover to Calais Passenger Information
Travel information for passengers onboard our Dover-Calais ferries.
Ferry passengers taking the Norfolkline new service from Dover to Calais should be well-informed of the formalities before they travel to France. This page gives important ferry travel information that passengers will find useful when travelling with us.
Before Boarding:
The port check-in time for your departure is printed on your invoice. Passengers must check in 45 minutes before departure but it’s always good to allow a little more time for Customs and Immigration checks.
Documents you must carry:
Bring along a valid passport or valid photographic EU national identity card. Before you travel to France check your passport will be valid for at least 6 months after the date of your return. Taking photocopies of your insurance documents and passport is a useful tip. Children under 16 will require a passport and must be travelling with an adult. If a parent or legal guardian is not present the child needs to carry a letter of authorisation from the authorities or relevant parties. Children over 16 years of age can travel on their own, but require authorisation from a legal guardian or parent to leave the UK. Please carry your Travel insurance documents. If you’ve taken out a plan, check that it has the comprehensive cover you need and, if you’re visiting the UK, obtain free health insurance from the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
Documents required when travelling with a vehicle:
If you’re travelling by car you’ll require insurance documents, driving permit, and a green card. You’ll also require a breathalyser kit, security triangle and first aid kit. And, you’ll need to bring at least two fluorescent vests, which have to be kept with the car. If you forgot these items, don't worry as they’re obtainable on our ferry to buy onboard.
